I've been Twittered...

...or tweeted... or twitified... whatever.

Ever since watching my buddy the Flying Tiger annoy his wife through an entire vacation to the states with BlackBerry in hand, I have wondered in awe, 'what is this Twitter thing' ?

A few days ago I decided to finally find out for real. So far it has burned up a good part of my time with relatively no real value i can think of... and i love it.

If anybody wants to Follow or Tweet me i am "GoWestWeb" ( http://twitter.com/gowestweb )

I also just found TwitterFeed.com ( http://www.twitterfeed.com ) which will supposedly post this blog entry and all that come after it to my Twit friends.

Next very important thing to discover...
how can I post photos from my BlackBerry to Twitter?

for added pointless information value, I just found the RSS feed URL for my facebook updates, and added that to TwitterFeed, too. Now I can post in either place and it should (every 30 minutes... still waiting for first update) send my FB posts to my Twitter followers.

Lucky them.

I actually don't find it intrusive at all - I have twhirl on my desktop and glance at the feed from time-to-time. For me the key was to follow interesting people regardless of whether I knew them. By occasionally replying to them I have in turn been followed by them - even some of the big names in the web world. It is also a great place to pick up breaking news, insider information, great tutorials and instant help on all manner of things. For me it has replaced the newsgroups for online interaction. I think it's a great resource!

Thanks Steve - sarcasm aside I can already see the merits. There are times i don't feel social (i.e. turn it off, ignore it, whatever) and times, like today, when i have work to do but mentally really need some light-heartedness mixed in. I think I am really going to like Twitter.

as for TwitterFeed from facebook... i have turned it off until I can find out how to get an RSS feed of just my direct FB posts. I don't think my Twitter friends care to know when i have a new message from my 10th grade biology teacher, for example.

You can send all your tweets to facebook though. That is what I do. There is a facebook app for twitter you can search for and install, it will then make each of your tweets a status update.

@Joshua: thanks for the tip... what i really need is a big button.
When i press the button, it takes a picture, asks me for 140 characters and posts to my blog, twitter, facebook, myspace and an rss feed on the science fiction channel website. Then it holds my calls while I take a nap. I hear it is in beta... i'm on the waiting list.
